Empty promises in review

Let's review some of the campaign promises made by Mr. Peebles. How can we crowd a Library, City Hall, cinema, performing arts center, sports fields, aquatic center, public square, and a significant amount of retail outlets along with 355 housing units into the quarry flatlands? Why not a monorail and brass band while we're at it?

Look at the footprint of the property and you'll quickly see the folly. 355 housing units would cover most of the building site with little room left over for the retail or desired commercial development, let alone his numerous campaign promises. That's why it is very important to separate campaign promises from what is guaranteed on the ballot measure. None of the promises are on the ballot. Mr. Peebles is fighting hard and spending a fortune to get your vote for his 355 houses, and in exchange we get no guarantees because anything else would compete with where that housing will need to go.

Here are other Peebles Corp. promises: Magically a whole new neighborhood on the most congested stretch of Highway 1 will result in less traffic. They say they have a plan, one we have yet to see. They say Pacifica will gain multiple millions, but these figures are based on a full build-out of 355 houses, something regulators have said it is very unlikely they will allow.

If they shrink his footprint, what gets cut? Not the housing! By now Pacificans should be getting suspicious of these too-good-to-be-true promises. Peebles broke his promise to not get involved in the City council race by paying for a nasty "push-poll" attack on city council incumbents in his unethical attempt to get rid of anyone who hasn't come out squarely in his camp. He still continues to threaten Pacificans with a big-box even after apologizing about his WalMart threat. Pacificans are not gullible. I for one will send that message by voting NO on Measure L.
