Why I joined the Pacifica Today & Tomorrow

I left the May 18th "Charrette" cautiously optimistic about Mr. Peebles and his designs for the Quarry. It sounded too good to be true, so I began doing some "due diligence" on Mr. Peebles, his architect, "Charrettes", and some of the environmental, regulatory, and economic issues with the Quarry property. I collected web links and notes. I started asking around. Peebles seemed to be patient; I expected this would take years to come to a ballot.

It was not to be. A mere nine days after the "Charrettes" ended, Peebles submitted his request for a ballot measure.

Then, only a few weeks later, on June 14th, I saw the announcement of Mr. Peebles' petition in the Tribune, without any regulatory approval, ir impact studies, indeed without even a design or plan. No committment to public amenities. Not even a drawing or picture of the proposed development. No approval from the Council or the Planning Commission. What exactly was he asking us to sign? A blank check to build 355 houses and 300 hotel rooms, and a committment to obey all applicable laws. On his word of honor, and nothing else. That evening, I went to Safeway, and ran into a petition gatherer already out there the same day! He said he was working for an "Aileen" and he didn't seem to even know the name of Highway 1. Another red flag.

Within days, I began to hear similar concerns from others who are astute in these matters, and who had collected their own web links and information. We decided to combine our efforts, publish our work, and provide http://www.pacificaquarry.org as a resource for the public.
