Suburban Myth

There's a very interesting story going 'round town:

"...Pacificans heavily disputed what was known as "the Big Cut," which would have allowed an extension of Interstate 380 west of Highway 1." (Pacifica Tribune- Dorsetta Hale 6-21-06)

"I've been reading the... Letters to the Editor for several years and have 'listened' to the same complaints, from the same people, over and over with their always negative positions on almost every development issue. They continually stress the traffic issue (but worked successfully to stop the 380 extension)..." (Mel Peterson 7-26-06)

I freely admit that in 1974, my family opposed the extension of 380 connecting to Hwy. 1. But one of the interesting things about this long-dead issue is: It passed in a vote of the people. That's right, the Pacificans of that day said yes to a freeway carving through our beautiful hills to connect with Hwy 1. Our letter-writing advocates of prehistoric ideas would have been in the majority. What killed this idea was the very poor state budget of the time, i.e., the oil embargo, inflation, recession, etc.

Of more interest to me is: who is spreading this inaccurate history after all this time? I would suggest that no matter what position one takes, please fact-check and be more sceptical of one's sources.
